11/01/2008 - Palm Coast, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Michael Letzig birdied his final hole on Saturday en route to a two-under 70 and the third-round lead of the Ginn sur Mer Classic.
Letzig finished 54 holes at seven-under 209 and leads by one at The Conservatory.
Ryan Palmer reached nine-under par for the championship, but bogeys at 15 and 16 dropped him into a tie with Letzig at minus-seven. Palmer, in the last group, elected to hit driver off the deck at the par-five 18th and pulled his shot into the water. He walked off with a bogey and dipped into a tie for second.
"I had confidence in hitting the golf shot," said Palmer, who is on the outside looking in at a PGA Tour card next year, sitting 143rd on the money list. "It's one of those times you don't pull it off."
Palmer finished with an even-par 72 and is tied for second with Englishman Kenneth Ferrie (67) and John Huston (70). The trio is knotted at six-under 210.
Mark Wilson (67) and Ken Duke (72) share fifth at five-under 211.
The second round was completed Saturday morning after darkness stopped action on Friday. The conditions were windy and tough, but Letzig braved it better than anyone through three rounds.
He began the round with a 14-foot birdie putt at the par-five opening hole. Letzig found trouble with back-to-back bogeys at three and four, but got one back thanks to a birdie at five.
Letzig birdied the par-five ninth to get within one at six-under par, but missed an 18-foot par save at the 10th. He bogeyed 12 as well, but a birdie at the par-five 13th returned him to minus-five.
At the par-four 15th, Letzig played a sensational approach to four feet. He converted the birdie putt and thanks to several miscues from Palmer, found himself one off the lead.
Letzig laid up in the right rough with his second at the unreachable, par-five 18th. His third stopped eight feet from the stick and he rolled in the birdie putt to match Palmer at minus-seven.
After Palmer's mistake at 18, Letzig grabbed his first 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour.
"It's been a tough week," said Letzig. "We played the British Open this year and we've had the same swing thought over a lot of shots. It sure feels the same."
Letzig is in a bit better position than most of his closest competitors. His tie for 29th and the accompanying $32,500 check last week at the Frys.com Open vaulted him to 109th on the tour's money list.
The top 125 after next week earn tour cards, but now Letzig is eyeing up a two-year exemption that would come with his first trip to the winner's circle on the PGA Tour.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself anyway, but you have to go one shot at a time," said Letzig. "Since it is so hard out there, you can't get ahead of yourself."
Vaughn Taylor (69), J.J. Henry (69) and Robert Allenby (73) share seventh place at four-under 212.
Last week's winner in Arizona, Cameron Beckman, managed an even-par 72 and is tied for 10th with Chad Collins (70), George McNeill (71) and Nicholas Thompson (72). That group came in at minus-three.
David Duval was tied for sixth at the start of the third round, but a two-over 74 on Saturday dropped him down to a tie for 14th at two-under 214. He is still not completely out of it in his bid for his first win since his major breakthrough at the 2001 British Open.
"I just didn't hit the ball quite as well today," admitted Duval. "I'm not out by any means."

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
